Researching and selecting a topic for your history essay can be one of the most difficult parts of writing a thesis. The great thing is that you are not alone. It's going to take a lot of effort, time, and a lot of practice in order to determine a topic that will stand out among the masses. I'm going to give you some tips to help you determine a topic for your essay.
A. Relevance is an important consideration. You may feel that you have a strong topic for your essay, but if it doesn't relate to a historical event, there is a very good chance that you won't get any grade points off of it. This isn't a bad thing, because a reference to Lincoln or Reagan isn't going to do much for you if you don't also discuss the events leading up to them. Do not write about the segregation of the races, or the lack of civil rights for African Americans. Those events have been covered hundreds of times in the past.
